  7. I used a Google Analytics plugin which showed both audience overview and visitors overview on the WP dashboard. It seemed the best to me, but I have forgotten its actual name. There are too many plugins for Google Analytics and I cannot remember the name.

  9. Hi, I’m using your fantastic magazine theme for two of my websites and I’m very happy with it. I couldn’t find an option to add my Google Analytics script. How to set up Google Analytics for MH Magazine? Thanks for your help!

    1. Hi Paul, thanks for using MH Magazine and we’re very happy that you like the theme. You’ll find an option to add your tracking code (Google Analytics, Piwik or else) in your WordPress dashboard under Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Tracking Code.

However, while this option exists, we would rather recommend that you use a WordPress plugin to add and manage your tracking code. Implementing the tracking code into themes isn’t considered best practice because that functionality will be lost when you switch themes.

Instead it would be recommended to manage your GA tracking code via suitable plugins (you can find recommended plugins in this post) so that the data and functionality is portable and won’t be lost after switching WordPress themes.

  10. Do these plugins provide any heat map like Hotjar? I understand that there are more advanced behaviour tracking methods which will work on understanding more on how visitors browse within the website.

    1. Hi Jason, in general these WordPress plugins provide functionality similar to Google Analytics, either by utilizing GA or by utilizing 3rd party tracking functionality. As far as we know these analytics plugins don’t support heat maps. However, if you need more insights, you could contact the developers of your favorite plugin directly and ask for heat map functionality.

  11. Hi there! Which one is the most light weight? I was using Jetpack (which I loved!) but it is a very heavy plugin and was slowing down my site a lot. I need a good light weight analytics plugin.

  12. I never started to use another option for analytics. Well! Google Analytics is always my favourite and will always be. But surely I’ll try other platforms as well!
