Theme Installation and Configuration
You can install and configure MH TechMagazine by following a few simple steps. After you’ve installed the MH Magazine lite (parent theme), you can install and activate the MH TechMagazine (child theme) and then proceed with the theme configuration. By default the theme will display an archive with your latest posts on the front page.
If you want to have a magazine-style front page with widgets (like shown in the theme demo), you need to create and set a static front page, assign the widgetized Homepage template to your static front page and then you can place widgets on your front page as you like.
Please note that the theme demo shows the premium version of MH Magazine and not all the shown widgets are included in the free version of your theme. To take full advantage of the included custom widgets and layout options, you can upgrade to MH Magazine.
Theme Documentation
For MH TechMagazine you can use the same theme documentation as for MH Magazine. Basically the first thing you need to do to configure your theme is create and set a static front page, assign the widgetized Homepage template to your static front page and then you can place the widgets within the Home widget areas on your front page as you like.
You can find full documentation about the position of the available widget locations within the theme documentation for MH Magazine. The documentation also covers additional information about the static front page, available options within the theme customizer, included custom widgets and there is a video tutorial included as well, which is especially helpful for people who are not yet familiar with WordPress and who want to learn more about the usage of WordPress itself.
Suggested Widget Placements on Front Page
While MH TechMagazine as free theme does not have all the features, options and custom widgets from the premium version of MH Magazine included, you can still use the free theme to create nice online magazines and dynamic news websites by placing widgets on your front page. As suggestion, you could for example place your widgets like this:
Home 2: MH Slider [lite] or MH Posts Large [lite] widget
Home 3: 2 x MH Custom Posts [lite] widgets
Home 4: 2 x MH Custom Posts [lite] widgets
Home 6: Default WordPress Text widget with advertisement
Home 6: MH Custom Posts [lite] widget
Home 6: MH Tabbed [lite] widget
Parent Theme: MH Magazine lite
MH TechMagazine is a child theme for the free MH Magazine lite theme. That means in order to install and activate the MH TechMagazine theme, you’ll need to install MH Magazine lite first. When using this child theme, you’ll benefit from the features of MH Magazine lite while having the unique style available that is provided by the MH TechMagazine theme.
If you like the style and layout of MH TechMagazine, then you might want to have a look at the premium version of MH Magazine. The premium version not only offers plenty of additional features, options and custom widgets for your website, but you also can have the same style as MH TechMagazine without making use of a child theme, simply by adjusting the included layout options and custom widgets of the premium theme.
